Biography

If you make a reservation for a retreat at GilChrist, you will most likely see my name on the email signature, talk with me on the phone, or see my face when you arrive. I’ve always delighted in being able to connect people with the natural world in ways that allow them to experience their environment deeply and meaningfully. My undergraduate degree in psychology and environmental studies paved the way for this beautiful integration of two passions of mine. The principles of permaculture – earth care, people care, and fair share – also shape my approach to my work. Making rest and retreat more accessible for all is something I try to work toward.

I also do a lot of the behind-the-scenes logistics and administrative work at GilChrist: working with group retreat facilitators, handling billing, managing social media, keeping the website up to date, cataloging the library, and also pitching in with cabin cleaning and feeding the goats.

When I’m not at work, you can find me volunteering in my Three Rivers community, cooking and baking in my kitchen, taking in thought-provoking television and movies with my husband, or daydreaming about grand garden plans for my backyard.

“Yet, O Lord, You are our Father. We are the clay, You are the potter; we are the work of Your hand.”  Isaiah 64:8

Are you longing to be in the palm of His hands? To let Abba Father mold and shape you?

Welcome to this weekend away with Him!

Join a group of like-hearted women for plentiful time for you and God alone in your own private cabin (at GilChrist) or room (at The Hermitage) while also enjoying community and one-on-one spiritual companionship.

  • Deepen your relationship with God through new practices of prayer
  • Follow the Spirit’s individual leading to read, rest, pray, walk, write, worship
  • Bask in God’s presence through time in nature
  • Discern His voice through one-on-one spiritual companionship

About the Facilitators

Linda Andersen: wife to Roy, mother, grandmother, mentor, and author of eight books. Through her own walk with God, her books, and opening her home to come for Days Alone with God (DAWGs), Linda has introduced hundreds of women to the power and beauty found in spending time with Him. Her most recent book is Spiritual Retreat for Tired Souls.

Lori Melton: wife, mother, and retreat coordinator. She and her husband Bryan are privileged to be the directors of the Sanctuary at Bear Creek. A life-long facilitator and spiritual director, her joy has been in accompanying others on their journeys of growth in intimacy with our Abba Father.

Twenty years ago, Linda welcomed Lori to her home to experience a Day Alone with God, where she discovered the transformation time alone with Him made in her life.

That was just the beginning! First Love Ministries was born five years ago as they began inviting others to join them, hosting retreats and providing resources to draw closer to the heart of Abba Father.

Registration and Accommodations

Our time together will start with dinner on Friday night and continue until heading back home Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Participants are welcome to check into their cabins on Friday between 3:00-6:00 p.m. Guest spaces at both GilChrist and the neighboring Hermitage Community will be used.

Retreatants staying at Gilchrist are responsible for their own meals except for dinner on Friday. Each guest space at Gilchrist is equipped with a complete kitchen (see the complete GilChrist FAQ for more information about the facility). Those staying at The Hermitage should bring their own food for breakfasts; lunches and dinners are provided (see The Hermitage website for more information).

For more information and to register

Contact Lori at thesanctuaryatbearcreek@gmail.com or 616-218-8281. The cost for the weekend is $190.
