Biography

If you make a reservation for a retreat at GilChrist, you will most likely see my name on the email signature, talk with me on the phone, or see my face when you arrive. I’ve always delighted in being able to connect people with the natural world in ways that allow them to experience their environment deeply and meaningfully. My undergraduate degree in psychology and environmental studies paved the way for this beautiful integration of two passions of mine. The principles of permaculture – earth care, people care, and fair share – also shape my approach to my work. Making rest and retreat more accessible for all is something I try to work toward.

I also do a lot of the behind-the-scenes logistics and administrative work at GilChrist: working with group retreat facilitators, handling billing, managing social media, keeping the website up to date, cataloging the library, and also pitching in with cabin cleaning and feeding the goats.

When I’m not at work, you can find me volunteering in my Three Rivers community, cooking and baking in my kitchen, taking in thought-provoking television and movies with my husband, or daydreaming about grand garden plans for my backyard.

This retreat is for anyone who feels the need to care for their energy and conserve it within all the demands of the day. It is for parents, leaders, educators, students, and caregivers – anyone who wants to discover new ways to maintain their peace and composure in our busy world.

We will learn tools to use life-long for conserving our energy in a trusting, respectful environment. No previous experience is necessary. Just come as you are.

You are invited to join this very special day where concerns of the world are set aside as we immerse in the sacred arms of nature and share in our small learning community. Using the Native American Talking Circle, we will contribute as inspired to do so, and listen to the emerging truth from within. We will learn about maintaining peace in daily activities and practical aspects of self-care. We will tune into the wonder of springtime among the beauty of the trees and rolling hills of southwestern Michigan.

The People’s Peace will give you specific tools to effectively take care of yourself and your energy.

Together we will explore:

  • Personal balance
  • Communication
  • Peace of mind
  • Focus and concentration
  • Self-fulfillment
  • Energy renewal
  • Sleep and self-care
  • Healthy personal and professional relationships
  • How to receive effective support

Retreat Schedule

Meeting at GilChrist’s beautiful WindHill building, we will begin the day with a time of silence to set the stage for our day together. Lunch will be on our own in the silence, and the day will feature periodic breaks in the sacred space of nature for reflection and journaling. At the close of our time together, we will have a community sharing and reflection to review our tools, our intentions, and lessons learned.

Registration and Lodging Details

To register for the retreat, e-mail Lisa or call her at (269) 221-8335. Early bird registration for the retreat program is $145; on June 1, 2024, the cost increases to $165. Space is limited. Please inquire about options for financial accessibility.

Cabins may be available to reserve if you’d like to stay on retreat for the weekend and participate in the program on Saturday. Reserve your cabin using GilChrist’s online reservation form (or by calling the main office at (269) 244-1130 with any questions). Lodging is $60/night per person in addition to the program fee, payable by cash or check at the end of your stay.

Individuals are responsible for their own meals and snacks. Each guest space at GilChrist is equipped with a complete kitchen. If you are joining us for the day without reserving a cabin, you will find an ample kitchen where you can prepare your food in WindHill’s kitchen. See the complete GilChrist FAQ for more information about the facility.
