Biography

If you make a reservation for a retreat at GilChrist, you will most likely see my name on the email signature, talk with me on the phone, or see my face when you arrive. I’ve always delighted in being able to connect people with the natural world in ways that allow them to experience their environment deeply and meaningfully. My undergraduate degree in psychology and environmental studies paved the way for this beautiful integration of two passions of mine. The principles of permaculture – earth care, people care, and fair share – also shape my approach to my work. Making rest and retreat more accessible for all is something I try to work toward.

I also do a lot of the behind-the-scenes logistics and administrative work at GilChrist: working with group retreat facilitators, handling billing, managing social media, keeping the website up to date, cataloging the library, and also pitching in with cabin cleaning and feeding the goats.

When I’m not at work, you can find me volunteering in my Three Rivers community, cooking and baking in my kitchen, taking in thought-provoking television and movies with my husband, or daydreaming about grand garden plans for my backyard.

"The Lord is your Shepherd... You shall not want... He makes you lie down in green pastures. He leads you beside the still waters. He restores your soul." Psalm 23:1-2

The Lord calls to us to let Him be our Shepherd, to let Him fulfill our every desire, to let Him lead us to green pastures and still waters. He longs for us to come that He might restore our souls. That is the invitation to every one of His sheep in this inspired love letter of God written to each of His children. Let us answer the call of our Shepherd, who is like no other, to come.

Join a small group of like-hearted women as we say yes to our Shepherd's invitation to come away from the busyness of our lives into a time of love and restoration. Come for a guided silent retreat with your own modern, fully equipped cabin in the welcoming facilities and beautiful grounds of GilChrist Retreat Center.

Come, taste, and see the goodness of individual time with the Shepherd to read, rest, pray, walk, worship, and come together for individual spiritual companioning and times of prayer and sharing together. Over and over again, participants tell us how deeply God touches their lives, changing them in profound ways that only He can, in these times with Him. New for this retreat, morning Holy Yoga sessions will also be available Friday and Saturday mornings!

About the Facilitators

Lori Melton began retreating almost twenty years ago, uncovering the difference that time alone with God makes in a person’s life. A lifelong facilitator and spiritual director, she and her husband run The Sanctuary at Bear Creek in Allegan, delighting in creating space for others to experience the beauty and blessing of time with the Creator.

Linda Andersen, as an author and mentor, has spent the last 25 years pulling people away from the tyranny of religion into the delight of relationship with God. Her books include Interludes, The Too Busy Book, Retreats for the Curious, Retreats for the Comfortable and many others. Her ministry first began in her own soul and then continued by simply opening her home to women to come for individual DAWG days (Days Alone with God).

Sherri Willett, as an empty nester with a husband working in the home, realized the space for quiet was missing. Meeting Linda Andersen was her introduction to silence and solitude as a part of the abundant life in Christ, awakening her soul to deeper intimacy with God and finding needed rest in her journey. As a joyful leader for over 30 years, she introduces women to a richer knowledge of their Savior through Bible study, prayer, drama, healing care ministry, life groups, silent retreating, friendships, and art.
