Biography

I am part of a web of writers, editors, videographers, communicators, and ambassadors who help shine a light on how we can all contribute to a loving world. For me this comes through in three simple words: reveal, serve, and inspire. It means researching, listening, sleuthing, writing, connecting, and conspiring for good.

Our teachers in this work are numerous. I have learned so much from others' fine "translations" of the need for love in our world--epidemiologists, neuroscientists, and public health specialists, artists, clergy, and various lifelong practitioners of compassion--who carry this work into realms of our social life like schools, prisons, and law enforcement circles.

My background is deep in the humanities, and my family tree is of full Catholics (faithful and lapsed), skeptics, and librarians. I have a master's degree in literature and am drawn to volunteer with arts-related organizations and projects.

Sometimes winter inspires one to seek refuge in solitude and quiet, which can be rejuvenating. Sometimes too much can bring about a melancholy spirit. This retreat provides space for hibernating in togetherness. The intent is to create a warm atmosphere of choice between solitude or an activity together and reflect on the energies of each experience. This wintertime retreat will offer yoga practices, hiking, sledding, and community dinners with games by the fire.

About the Facilitator
Marne Apolo's inspiration for learning and healing through yoga began with her first yoga class with Yolanda Bain in 1996, in San Francisco, CA. With a master's degree in Communication from Western Michigan University and an intensive 200 hour RYT training with Karina Ayn Mirsky at Sangha Yoga, Marne strives to cultivate creative ways to integrate communication studies with yoga philosophy and practice. She holds a second degree certification in Reiki and is a certified Relax and Renew Trainer (Restorative Yoga with Judith Hanson Lasater). She continues her study of yoga with Sarah Powers and Angela Farmer.
